The Eco Committee is made up of 10 children, one from each class from Year 2 upwards. Each representative is elected by their peers through a formal voting system.
The School Council meet with Miss Starmer at least once every half term. The pupils share responsibility for running meetings and keeping a record of the meetings. Pupil representatives ensure that there is communication to and from the Eco-Committee to the rest of the school via the Eco-Board.
The role of the Eco-committee is to ensure that the whole school is aware of the Eco-Schools programme; take the lead in carrying out the Environmental Review; ensure that everyone in the school community is represented in the decision-making process; and develop an Eco-Schools Action Plan.
During the Autumn Term, the Eco Committee met with Mr Singh (our premises officer) to complete the environmental review. This half term, the children will be completing an action plan to ensure that the school moves towards being more eco-friendly.
07/11/17 This week the Eco Committee met to agree an Action Plan based on the results from last half term’s Environmental Review. The committee Looked at the results of the Environmental Review and then picked out which of the Eco-Schools nine topics they wanted to tackle. As a group, they decided what actions the school could take to improve these issues. The children needed to think carefully about what they are going to do and how they are going to do it. They have had a chance to practice a wide range of important skills including; critical thinking, planning, time management, creativity, teamwork, reflection, numeracy, goal setting and project management. The Environmental review as well as the Action Plan can be seen on the Eco Committee information board in Greengate hall. The Eco Committee are excited to implement the agreed actions and work towards being a ‘greener’ school.
