Local Member of Parliament visits Highcliffe
In October, we were thrilled to welcome our local Member of Parliament Peter Bedford to Highcliffe Primary School.Upon arrival, Peter – who was elected as the Conservative MP for Mid Leicestershire in the recent General Election – was taken on a mini tour of our school before meeting with our Student Leadership Team in the Lionheart Room.
Here, our wellbeing ambassadors – Sienna (Year 6) and Tiana (Year 4) – English Experts – Anaya (Year 6) and Maria (Year 5) – and Eco Council – Penny (Year 6) and Dhruv (Year 6) – sampled coffee and cake with Peter before enjoying the opportunity to pose a series of pre-prepared questions to their local MP.
Then, Peter joined us in the hall for our Friday assembly, where we celebrated attendance and applauded achievements. There was just enough time to come together to sing a song before Peter bid us all farewell.
“It was fantastic for Mr Bedford to see our school in action,” said our Head of School Mrs Stewart.
“Our pupil ambassadors met with him to ask questions about his life both in and out of politics.
“He then joined us for a very special Friday celebration assembly.”
On visiting our school, Peter said: “I understand the importance of visiting educational establishments in my constituency which will help me to understand the challenges faced by schools and educational institutions.”
"It was great to see first-hand the opportunities available to the young people at Highcliffe Primary School during my visit."
A huge thank-you to Peter for taking time out of his day to visit us at Highcliffe, and thank-you to Rishi Lad – one of our School Governors – for organising this event.
